DAY 18 Speaking of which, what happened with you and Nicole last night?

 

 

올리비아: 아, 그러고 보니… 어젯밤 너랑 니콜 사이에 무슨 일이 있었던 거야?	Speaking of which, what happened with you and Nicole last night?
브라이언: 음… 우리가 같이 저녁을 먹고 있었거든. 분위기 좋았는데, 종교 얘기가 나왔어.	Well… we were having dinner, and things were going fine until we started talking about religion.
올리비아: 종교 얘기? 무슨 얘길 했는데?	Religion? What exactly did you say?
브라이언: 그냥 가볍게 이런저런 얘기하다가 내가 좀 무신론적인 농담을 했어. 그런데 알고 보니 니콜이 독실한 기독교인이더라고.	We were just chatting casually, and I made a lighthearted joke about being an atheist. Turns out, Nicole is a devout Christian.
올리비아: 아… 그래서 분위기가 갑자기 어색해진 거구나.	Ah… that explains why things got awkward all of a sudden.
브라이언: 응. 그녀가 갑자기 조용해지더니 그 이후로 별로 말을 안 하더라고.	Yeah. She went quiet after that and didn’t say much for the rest of the dinner.
올리비아: 어색했겠다. 근데 니콜은 원래 그런 얘기에 민감하게 반응해?	That must’ve been uncomfortable. Does she usually react strongly to those kinds of topics?
브라이언: 잘 몰랐어. 이번에 처음 알았지.	I had no idea she was that serious about religion. I just found out last night.
올리비아: 그럼 나중에 가볍게 사과하면서 대화해봐. 그녀도 네가 일부러 그런 건 아니란 걸 알 거야.	Maybe you could casually apologize later. I’m sure she’ll understand you didn’t mean anything by it.
브라이언: 맞아, 나도 너무 신경 쓰지 말고 자연스럽게 넘어가려고 해.	Yeah, I think I’ll just try not to overthink it and keep things natural.
